How Municipal Court Warrants Work
Grant County lists two city courts, Marion City Court and Gas City Court, each separate from Grant Circuit Court and Grant Superior Courts 1, 2, and 3. These local benches hear misdemeanors, infractions, ordinance violations, and traffic dockets. Miss a setting, ignore an order, or leave a court obligation unresolved, and the judge may sign a bench warrant or warrant for arrest. Indiana and Grant County publications favor plain terms like bench warrant, warrant for arrest, and failure to appear; the label capias pro fine is not the standard here. City police serve those orders, but they neither issue nor cancel them. Only the city-court judge can recall, reset, or quash a warrant, and quash simply means the judge sets it aside. That split in roles makes the issuing court the one source that speaks to current status.
Two Grant County City Court Warrants
Marion and Gas City stand as the two city courts under Grant County's current local rules, running under court codes 27H02 and 27H01. Neither docket belongs to the Grant County Clerk just because both cities sit inside the county. Each city-court clerk keeps the local records.
Upland, Fairmount, and Jonesboro each field a police department, yet the official court directory and local rules name no separate court for any of them. A ticket written in those towns has to be searched in MyCase and routed to whatever court the docket shows. Where an officer wrote it does not tell you which clerk holds the file.
Municipal Courts Across Grant County
The official Grant County map names only two cities with a separately identified local court. Both city courts manage their own dockets, so contact each one directly. Never assign a smaller town's case to a city court by guesswork.
| Place | Court route | What the sources show | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marion | Marion City Court | Misdemeanors, infractions, ordinances | 765-668-4425 |
| Gas City | Gas City Court | Misdemeanors, infractions, ordinances | 765-677-3081 |
| Upland | Court named in MyCase | No separate city court located | Grant Clerk: 765-668-8121 |
| Fairmount and Jonesboro | Court named in MyCase | No separate city court located | Grant Clerk: 765-668-8121 |
A result pointing to Grant Circuit or a Superior Court means the Grant County Clerk holds that record. A result naming Marion or Gas City Court means calling that city's own clerk instead.
Marion Warrants in Grant County
Marion City Court sits at 301 S. Branson Street inside the Marion Municipal Building, not the Grant County Courthouse. Its clerk dockets misdemeanors, infractions, and ordinance violations, takes payments, and returns city-court bond money. Sessions run on a published rhythm: arraignment and pretrial calendars Monday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m., trials Thursday at 2 p.m., and ordinance trials twice each month. A calendar, though, is not a walk-in warrant policy. Marion offers no online warrant search, reset form, payment portal, or surrender window. If you missed a setting, call 765-668-4425 with the case or citation number and ask whether the judge wants a new date, payment, motion, bond, or appearance. The official Marion clerk and court page carries the schedule and contact details.

That schedule helps with planning in Grant County, but the clerk should confirm current instructions before any visit.
Grant County Municipal Warrant Checks
Marion and Gas City publish no active-warrant roster or city warrant portal, so the workable online channel is Indiana MyCase. Search by case number, citation number, cross-reference number, or party. Party searches start with a last name and can add a first name, middle name, or date of birth. Read the court field and the chronological case summary, not just the name match.
- Gather the legal name, date of birth, citation, and any cause number.
- Search MyCase and narrow by court, case type, status, or filing date.
- Call Marion City Court or Gas City Court when that court appears.
- Visit the correct clerk only after confirming its hours and required documents.
- Use city police or the sheriff for service routing, then seek counsel before appearing on an arrest warrant.
A blank Grant County result still proves little, since MyCase omits some records and restricted warrant material may not appear.
Gas City Warrant Rules in Grant County
Gas City Court meets at 211 E. Main Street and answers at 765-677-3081. Initial hearings fall on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., with trials and sentencings Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Office hours run Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The court posts unusually firm ticket rules for this corner of Grant County: pay in full by the date shown, by money order only. No cash, no credit cards, no payment plans, and late payment can bring late fees, collection fees, or a license suspension. None of that guarantees mailing money will recall an existing warrant, so call first and ask what the docket requires. The official Gas City Court page lays out the payment and calendar details.

Gas City's own rules govern a Gas City ticket, not any Grant County clerk payment guidance.
Municipal Warrants: What They Show
MyCase shows a case record, not a sheriff-style warrant card. The cause number and court tell you which Grant County clerk can confirm status. Case type and the chronological summary reveal the local matter and its dated events. A warrant entry may log an issue, service, recall, or quash, while bond or service detail may still take a phone call.
| Cause or citation number | The main lookup key and the best identifier for a clerk call. |
|---|---|
| Issuing court | Marion City Court, Gas City Court, or another court named on the docket. |
| Case type and offense | Misdemeanor, infraction, ordinance, traffic, or another public category. |
| Docket events | Hearings, failures to appear, court orders, payments, and public warrant activity. |
| Status | Open or closed case status, which is not always the current warrant status. |
| Bond or service | Operational facts that may need confirmation from the court or serving agency. |
A closed case label is not proof that every warrant was recalled in Grant County. Ask the clerk to pull the live docket before you rely on it.
Grant County City Warrant Service
The judge issues the warrant in city court. The clerk keeps the record and moves the paperwork. Service falls to Marion Police, Gas City Police, or Grant County Sheriff patrol deputies. Each role stays separate, even when a department and the court share one municipal address.
City court
Issues the order, sets hearings, controls bond under court authority, and enters recall or quash action.
Police or sheriff
Serves or executes the order and may route a service question, but cannot erase the judge’s warrant.
Marion Police lists records at 765-668-4421 and county non-emergency dispatch at 765-668-8168. Gas City Police lists 765-674-2278, and the Grant County Sheriff lists 765-662-9836. None of these channels is a full municipal warrant database. Use them to route a question once you know the issuing court.
Clearing a Municipal Court Warrant
Only the issuing judge decides what clears a city-court warrant. The clerk can explain the docket and office steps but cannot promise an outcome or give legal advice. Grant County offers no universal walk-in window, recall form, surrender rule, or bond amount for city cases. Ask about your exact case before you pay or appear.
- Confirm the cause number, issuing court, and current warrant entry.
- Ask whether the court requires payment, a reset, a motion, bond, or appearance.
- Consult an Indiana criminal-defense lawyer before a voluntary appearance on an arrest warrant.
- Complete only the step authorized for that docket and keep every receipt or order.
- Confirm that the judge entered recall or quash and that the updated docket reflects it.
Warning: A payment receipt is not proof of recall; verify the judge’s order with Marion City Court or Gas City Court.
For traffic matters, also ask the Grant County court whether it sent or withdrew a failure-to-appear or failure-to-pay notice to the Indiana BMV.
Grant County City Warrant Access
Indiana court records are open to the public unless a statute or court rule says otherwise. Send a narrow request to whichever office holds the record. Marion City Court keeps its docket, Gas City Court keeps its docket, and the Grant County Clerk holds county-court records. Police and sheriff offices keep their own agency files.
Access rule: The Indiana Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3 permits inspection and copying unless an exception applies.
Agencies can withhold investigatory material at their discretion. Juvenile, sealed, and expunged matters carry added limits, and a trial judge can keep an unserved arrest or search warrant confidential. MyCase also warns that it does not cover all courts or replace a full criminal-history search. So if your online Grant County warrant search comes up empty, ask the issuing clerk whether coverage, timing, sealing, juvenile status, or a confidentiality order is the reason. Public access still does not decide who can recall a warrant. That power stays with the judge.
